The original church, likely Romanesque in design, was created along with the new town around the year 1250 and was designated as the parish church of Svitavy. The church featured a main nave with two chapels in a cruciform plan and a presbytery.

Observation tower of the church
Description Open to the public, the tower of the Church of the Visitation of the Virgin Mary from 1250 offers views of the second longest square with an arcade in the Czech Republic, as well as of Javornický and the Hřebeč ridge. The bell-keeper’s quarters house an exhibition on existing and defunct churches and chapels of the Svitavy Roman Catholic parish.
